What this notice covers
This notice describes the elori website and the current Boring Notch Octave macOS app. The site is a product and documentation site. It does not offer customer accounts, checkout, subscriptions, a newsletter form, or a live chat widget.
Boring is an open-source desktop app. Its optional integrations and on-device features are described below so you can evaluate the app before installing it.
Information collected when you visit
The website uses PostHog for pageviews and technical error reports. A small number of portfolio interactions include a project identifier. We do not send your email or file contents in these events. Automatic click collection and session recording are disabled.
The site remembers your light or dark theme in your browser’s local storage. Like most hosted sites, the web host and network providers may process technical request information, such as IP address, browser details, and requested URL, to deliver and protect the site.
If you choose to email elori, your email provider sends us the message and address you include. We use it to reply and handle your enquiry. Please do not email passwords, access tokens, lyrics API keys, or confidential documents.
What Boring processes on your Mac
Boring stores its preferences and working data on your Mac. If enabled, Shelf retains new screenshots in a local library. Turning screenshot retention off stops future imports; it does not remove screenshots already retained.
The Codex view reads session history from your selected Codex folder and keeps its session scan on your Mac. When you open that tab, Boring uses the Codex credential stored on your Mac to request account usage from ChatGPT and fetches public model pricing from OpenAI. The app does not upload your Codex session history.
Enhanced lyrics are optional and off by default. When enabled, song title, artist, album, and duration are sent to MusicBrainz to identify a recording, then a lyrics request is sent to Spicy Lyrics using your own API key. The key is stored in macOS Keychain and is sent to the Spicy Lyrics service. Results are cached locally.
Octave playback in Brave uses the browser extension and local native bridge described in the setup guide. Media controls communicate with the local integration you install.
Service providers and external sites
The website uses Vercel for hosting and PostHog for analytics. The app’s optional integrations communicate with the services identified above. GitHub hosts the app source, releases, and issue tracker. Their own privacy notices and terms apply when you visit or use their services.
Following an external link, downloading an app, enabling lyrics, or opening the Codex view can send information to the respective provider. Review its practices before continuing.
Why we process information
Website analytics help us understand visits and product interest and diagnose site errors. Email lets us respond to your requests. The app processes locally selected media, files, settings, and session information to provide the features you choose. Optional integrations run only when you set them up or use the related feature.
Retention and your choices
Theme preference stays in your browser until you clear site data. App preferences, cached results, Codex history, and retained screenshots are stored locally under the app’s controls and storage locations. You can decline to enable optional integrations and clear local app data using macOS controls. Email correspondence remains in the inbox used to respond; website analytics are handled by our analytics provider.
If you have a privacy question or want to ask about a message you sent us, email [email protected]. Do not include secrets in your request.
Changes and contact
If the website or app begins collecting information in a materially different way, this notice will be updated to explain the changed feature and its data flow. For questions about this notice, contact [email protected].
