Setup & support

Get set up. Get back to your day.

Everything you need to start with the current Boring release: installation, optional integrations, data handling, and a direct way to reach the team.

01

Download the release

Get the latest Boring Notch Octave DMG from our GitHub releases. macOS 14 or later is required.

02

Move it to Applications

Open the DMG and drag Boring to Applications. The current build is not Apple Developer ID signed; follow the release guide to approve the first launch.

03

Make it your workspace

Explore music, Shelf, and focus. If you use Octave in Brave, follow the one-time bridge guide. Enhanced lyrics can be enabled separately with your own key.

04

Set up Octave in Brave

Octave playback requires the browser extension and native bridge described in LOCAL_OCTAVE.md. Follow that guide for your own Mac, then check playback and native controls before relying on the integration.

05

Enable enhanced lyrics

Enhanced lyrics are optional and off by default. Create your own application in the Spicy Lyrics developer dashboard, then open Settings → Media → Enhanced lyrics in Boring. Paste your key and choose Save & Enable.

The key is stored in macOS Keychain and sent only to the Spicy Lyrics API. Word-level timing is used when provided by the source; other tracks may use line timing or estimates.

06

Understand the data flows

Enhanced lyrics sends track title, artist, album, and duration to MusicBrainz to identify the recording, then requests lyrics from Spicy Lyrics. Results are cached locally.

The Codex tab reads authentication and session history from the selected Codex folder. Opening the tab requests plan allowance from ChatGPT using your Codex access token, and public model pricing from OpenAI. The app does not upload session history.

Screenshot retention is off by default. If enabled, newly captured screenshots are copied to a persistent Shelf library on your Mac. Turning it off stops future imports; it does not delete files already saved.

07

Keep the app up to date

This independently maintained release does not use the upstream automatic update feed. Download updates from the Boring Notch Octave GitHub releases and follow the release instructions.

08

Report a problem

Open a GitHub issue with your macOS version, Boring release, steps to reproduce the problem, and what you expected to happen. Remove private file names, credentials, and account details from screenshots or logs before sharing.

For team evaluation or questions you prefer to discuss privately, email [email protected]. Formal support response times are not part of the current free release.

Questions about Boring

Frequently asked questions.

What are credits?

Boring has no credit balance or metered usage. The app does not use a credit system.

Can I buy more credits?

No. There are no credits to purchase, and Boring has no metered messaging service. The current macOS release is free.

What if I want to cancel?

There is no Boring subscription, free trial, or automatic renewal to cancel. The current app is a free download. Proposed paid plans are not on sale.

Can my agent message someone else?

No. Boring has no autonomous messaging agent or messaging API. File sharing is a separate action you start on your Mac.

Does it work when my agent is off?

Boring is a native Mac app, not a cloud agent. Its controls and focus timer work while the app and your Mac are running.

Is my phone number safe?

Boring and the elori website do not ask for a phone number. The app works as a Mac app; if you email us, you choose the contact information to include.

What is Boring?

Boring is elori’s native macOS utility. Its full release name is Boring Notch Octave. It brings music controls, lyrics, file tools, a focus timer, and a Codex usage view into a compact notch interface.

What do I need to run it?

The current release targets macOS 14 or later. Download the DMG from our GitHub releases and follow the installation guide. Octave playback in Brave requires a one-time extension and native bridge setup.

Is the current release free?

Yes. The current open-source release is free. Pro and Team pricing shown here is illustrative, and there is no paid checkout or confirmed paid feature bundle yet.

How do enhanced lyrics work?

Enhanced lyrics are optional and off by default. You supply your own Spicy Lyrics API key, which is stored in macOS Keychain. Track information is sent to MusicBrainz and Spicy Lyrics to identify the song and retrieve lyrics.

Can we evaluate Boring for a team?

Yes. Start with the current release on a test Mac, review the source and installation requirements, then contact elori with your device and support needs. A managed enterprise deployment or service-level agreement is not currently offered.
